POST-GRADUATE IN DIPLOMA IN PIPING DESIGN AND ENGINEERING
ABOUT PIPING
Piping Design & Engineering is the key element in various fields of engineering. Piping & accessories constitute over 25% of total capital investment in Chemical Process Industry, Petroleum & Petrochemical industry, Pharmaceutical industry, Power Plant, long distance LNG/LPG/CNG Piping System, Irrigation Projects.
Importance of Piping Engineer
Piping professional plays an important role from "Concept to commissioning" in all sectors of process and related industry. With increasing emphasis on transportation of petroleum products, Natural gas, corrosive & hazardous chemicals through pipes, underground and long distance pipelines, the requirement of skilled piping professional is increasing day by day.
Global Challenge for Piping Engineer
Global challenges for piping engineer are corrosion prevention, pipeline maintenance, leak detection for long distance pipelines, pipe coating, concrete coating, bending, welding, and deep water services, pipeline cleaning, pipeline operating efficiency etc. Pre-requisite skills for a piping engineer comprise Design, Manufacturing, Project Planning, Pipeline integrity, Corrosion control system Metallurgical consulting, Facility audits, Automation & Control Systems, Security of long distance & underground pipelines of petroleum products.
A piping engineer has to be conversant with subject such as Fluid Handling, Stress Strain relationship, Material of Construction, Field Instrumentation, Statutory & safety aspects.
About Piping Design & Engineering Course
MIT is the first institute in India to commence this course to meet the global challenges in piping. Since 1994, MIT has proven its expertise in skill development program for piping engineers.
Today this industrially accepted course, India's oldest in piping engineering, has become pioneer in education and training in all aspects of piping design and stands ready to meet their needs.
Course Structure
- MIT offers a postgraduate diploma in PIPING DESIGN & ENGINEERING one year part-time program, which is divided in two semesters.
- Total contact hours will be 430 conducted on weekend days (Saturday, Sunday), which are, distributed for theory, practical, software training, and also industrial visits.
- The course includes, apart from examinations at the end of each semester, one complete project and presentation of seminar.
- The course covers a variety of subjects viz., Fluid handling, Pipe stress analysis, Layout engineering, System engineering, Corrosion and Material selection, Thermal insulation, Costing, Field instrumentation, Fabrication and installation, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Statutory Regulation & Safety, Management skills.
- During the course, students will carryout practicals, like template & symbol base drawing creation and computer aided program with application of software like PDMS, AutoCAD, PIPENET, CAEPIPE, CAEFLOW.
Eligibility: Degree or diploma in Chemical, Mechanical, Polymer, Petrochemical, Petroleum, Production, Civil & Sugar Engineering
INTERACTION WITH INDUSTRY
The course content is framed and modeled by eminent experts from the different engineering streams. The faculty, which has vast industrial experience in well-known organization and specialized in particular subjects, conducts lectures and practical.
Contribution by Industry
- Dr. R. J. Rathi Gold Medal , sponsored by Sudarshan Chemical Industries Ltd., Pune, is awarded to the topper of this course.
- Praj Industries Ltd., Pune donated valves & fittings
- SST India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore donated two software’s - CAEPIPE & CAEFLOW
- George Fischer, Switzerland donated piping components.
Industry-Institute Forum
Three seminars on Piping Design & Construction were held till now, at MIT campus with support from the various industries. 42 papers covering different topics were presented.
1.National seminar January 1995.
2.International Seminar January -February 1998.
3. National Seminar March 2001.
Training Program
Training program was conducted for piping professionals from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Pipeline Division) Noida (New Delhi) at MIT campus.
- December-January 1998 (Four weeks)
- November -December 1999(Four weeks)
For various levels piping professional of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., was conducted at ONGC, MRBC, LPG/CSU plant at Uran (Maharshtara) in August 1999.
Excellence Acclaimed
MIT initiated this piping design & engineering course in January 1994. Till date more than 700 participants have taken this course. All of them are presently working in organization like Xytel (India), Uhde (India), Kvaerner Power Gas, Toyo, ICB Tecnimont, Forbes Marshall, Sulzer (India), Thermax, Praj Industries, Alfa-Laval, Jacobs, ONGC, IOCL, Linde, Flouir Daniel, Kriloskar Group, Foster Wheeler, Rolta (India), Dodsal, L&T, Sidwin Core Technology, Bechtel, Reliance India Ltd., Petrofac Engineering Pvt. Ltd., TCE consulting Eng. Ltd., etc. in India and abroad.
This course has been well received by several industries who have sponsored their piping engineers for this course, since in-house training and up gradation programs are not sufficiently comprehensive and wide ranging to keep pace with changing requirements and technologies.
