Polymer Engineering   - Curriculum
(Department of Polymer Engineering under MITPUNE is now MIT-WPU School of Polymer Engineering)

The course curriculum is designed to cater to the needs of Conversion Industry, Research Institutes and Academia.
Conversion Industry :
In order to cater to the needs of conversion industry, the subjects addressing the specific industry segment have been introduced. For example Rubber Technology, Paints, Adhesives and Surface Coating, Mechanics of Composites, Fiber Technology, Packaging Technology etc. The need of hands-on experience on various equipments is met by redesign of traditional experiments as well as in-plant training and projects.

Academia and Research :
The need for higher level of learning in the fundamental subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry and Rheology is being addressed by higher percentage of these subjects in the total syllabus besides the option of choosing subjects like Mechanics of Composites, and Advanced Polymer Rheology as elective subjects for the final year students.

Taking into account the need of various fields the entire curriculum is divided into following clusters :

  • Chemical Engineering : Heat transfer, Particulate Technology, Momentum Transfer, Chemical Process Calculation, Mass Transfer, Reaction Engineering, Instrumentation and Process Control
  • Chemistry : Engineering Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry
  • Material Science and Engineering : Polymer Materials, Rubber Technology, Engineering Materials Science and Technology
  • Design : Design Equipment and Machinery Element,  Mold and Die Design, Product Design,  Machine Drawing and Workshop Practices, Strength of Materials
  • Polymer Physics and Characterization : Polymer Structure-Property Relationship, Polymer Physics and Characterization, Polymer Testing, Polymer Blends
  • Polymer Processing and Rheology : Polymer Rheology, Polymer Processing Operation, Polymer Compounding
  • Polymer Applications : Surface Coatings and Adhesives, Packaging Technology, Fiber Technology, Specialty Polymers, Introduction to Petroleum Industry
  • Composites : Processing of Composites, Mechanics of Composites
  • Mathematics : Engineering Mathematics, Mathematical Methods for Polymer Engineers
  • Management and Humanities : Production Planning and Control, Technical Communications, Elements of Social Sciences
