The importance of Information Technology is well established now. It is an area that has caused tremendous brain-drain for India and is now the most challenging and dynamic field. India is emerging as a superpower in the field of Information Technology and soon will over-compete the giant i.e. the US. The demand for Indian experts in the Information technology is ever increasing, not only in the US but also in many of the European and far east countries like Germany and Japan respectively. Even in India software giants like Satyam Info, Infosys and Microsoft have established themselves. Pune boasts of having quite a few of them listed above in its industrial arena.

BE (Information Technology)
BE (Information Technology) is a four-year course of eight semesters conducted and assessed by the University of Pune.The Department of Information Technology has adequate facilities consisting of different laboratories and Internet Centre. The teaching faculty is well qualified and experienced.

Infrastructure
Laboratories and Softwares
The Department is equipped with the “State-of-Art” infrastructure and softwares. All PCs in each and every laboratory of the Department are networked. The Internet facility with 2 Mbps Leased line is made available to the students and staff.
- Programming lab- is equipped with 40 PCs used for programming in C & C++.
- Operating Systems lab- is equipped with 40 PCs used for doing assignments in operating systems under Linux platform
- System Design & Developments lab- is equipped with 40 PCs used for advanced assignments in system design. Design tools such as Rational Rose & development tools such as Visual Studio, Visual .Net & SQL server and Oracle database are used in this lab.
- Computer Network & Security – is equipped with 40 PCs & computer networks and security demonstration kits. Lab is used for performing the assignments of computer networks and network & information security concepts.
- Project lab- is equipped with 40 PCs dedicated for BE projects which can support different platforms with WiFi connectivity.
- Microprocessor lab- is equipped with 20 PCs, microprocessor & microcontroller kits used for hardware oriented practicals.
- Embedded Systems Lab – is equipped with 20 PCs and the Oasis ARM 7 based Microcontroller kits along with the Triton IDE are used for carrying out the assignments of embedded systems.
Departmental Library
Department of Information Technology has a separate Departmental Library consisting of more than 600 titles. It has good collection of Academic and general information books and subscriptions for journals on the topics related to the study of the Information Technology.
Internet Center
The department also has a separate Internet center of 40 computers, where students work on their projects and can also avail the Internet facility.
