Foreword

Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad is Founding Executive President and Managing Trustee of the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEER), as well as Founder and Director-General of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) in Pune, India. MAEER was founded in 1983, with the goal to become a “Center of Excellence in the field of education and research.” It now encompasses 24 institutes, colleges and schools in the fields of engineering, management, pharmacy, medicine, and general education, including the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering, MIT, MIT Women Engineering College, MIT School of Management, Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education, Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, and Maharashtra Institute of Pharmacy.

MIT was also established in 1983, and was among the first private, engineering colleges in the Maharashtra, and since remains as the most important flagship institution of MAEER, offering undergraduate engineering studies in nine disciplines and post-graduate studies in three disciplines.

Dr.Karad further serves as Founding President and Director General of the World Peace Center of MAEER’s MIT and is the UNESCO Chair Holder for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace.

The activities of the World Peace Center include environmental and educational projects, peace studies, human rights, and the promotion of human values.

The entire globe today is witnessing and experiencing the mind boggling Scientfic and Technological developments like artificial intelligence, internet, web management on one hand and total chaos, confusion, clashes, conflicts, terrorism, bloodshed and massacre in the name of caste, creed or religion on the other hand. Disregard for ethical, social, moral, cultural and ecological values is deeply rooted in the 'indifferent' and 'I don't care" culture.

The youth of today believes in revolt and action rather than patience and tolerance. In midstof this challenging environment, in orderto promote good character building among the young generabon, MAEER strictly follows the ethos of value-based educabon. Today, it gives me deep sense of satisfaction and pdde to pen these few lines about its glorious achievements and its dream of UNIVERSAL EDUCATION SYSTEM coming into reality.

MAEER nurtures the scientific spirft of mutual co-operabon and blends it up with professional careers of its learners. For its thousands of students MAEER is a gateway to professional life. For more than 18 years, we have led the development of education in emerging technologies and modem professional practice to meet the needs of our country's economy and of its many employers. Welcome to MAEER’s MIT Pune, an altogether Unique World of Academic Excellence in Engineering Education and Research. It is a matter of great pride that NBA – National Board of Accreditation has accredited all the disciplines for three years, with effect from 12.12.2003.

The marvelous academic environment offered by MIT’s e-Campus, known for its high level of discipline, along with second to none Cultural and Sports activities, will enable the student to transform himself / herself into a winning personality, capable of taking on the challenges of the world very successfully. In the present scenario, where the students have to face rough and tough competition, they need to showcase their edge over others, to be successful.

Naturally, superficial exam oriented preparation will never give adequate self confidence to the students in facing challenges of the business world. Therefore, more emphasis is given to motivate the students to go deep into the academic curriculum, enjoy the beauty of innovations and derivations and while doing so, prepare their analytical mindset, resulting into creativity-the sole of Engineering Technology.

In order to ensure the above, teaching and continuous assessment with frequent, periodical and systematic testing are the only tools to increase the student’s potential and endurance capacity. Accordingly, measures are taken to keep the students busy throughout the course right from day one, in a very studious environment and extract maximum amount of work from them and not giving them a chance to deviate their concentration away from their studies.

Engineering Technology is developing very fast. Computer and IT sectors have done fantastic revolution in the Technology. Whatever is new today becomes obsolete tomorrow.  However, regular Engineering degree curriculum, which is framed by Universities at the under graduate level, cannot be changed over night.

IT Industries are literally starving for Engineers and require them in large numbers, who are confident enough to take up the responsibilities immediately and are versatile in the Industrial activities.  Solution for this problem lies only in developing a long term relationship with the Industry in terms of signing of Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) / Collaborations. After studying this problem carefully, MIT has opened a new horizon for their staff and students, under which several MOUs / Collaborations have been signed with the world wide known MNCs such as Microsoft, Accenture, IBM, EDS / Mphasis, Thought works, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro Technologies, Zensar, etc. Besides these IT Companies, MIT has already signed MOUs with world-class core Engineering Companies such as Sandvik Asia Ltd., Shell Technology and also built up long-term relationship with engineering giants like L & T Ltd., M & M Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd, Thermax Ltd. etc. All necessary steps have been taken for successful implementation of the MOU activities.

Further, apart from the above Academic Collaborations, in view of the importance for Entrepreneurship development among the students, we have tied-up with National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), by signing MOU with them.  By virtue of this, the students are motivated and gradually becoming more inclined towards Entrepreneurship.

As a result of these MOUs / Collaborations, the pre-final year and final year students are offered hi-tech / live Industrial Projects, accessibility to high technology softwares and accordingly they become more conversant with best Industrial practices.  Add-on training programs are also organized by Industrial experts. The students will be educated with latest technology by eminent persons. They are participating and encouraging the Staff and Students and getting involved in the Institutional activities and giving valuable suggestions. Under these MOUs, the faculty of the Institute are deputed periodically to the Industry, to be exposed to the latest technological developments, who in turn passes on the acquired knowledge to the co- faculty members and the students. With all these relentless efforts, the expectations of the Industry are being fulfilled and the gap between the Industry and Academia is eventually bridged.

It is the feather in the cap of the Institute that as per the survey conducted by number of professional organizations and the media, MIT Pune has been ranked among the top few premier Engineering Colleges in the Country.

All these excellent facilities and opportunities are available to the students of this great Institute. Dear students,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to MAEER's MIT, Pune. This institution, founded in 1983 with the aim of providing world-class education in Engineering and Technology, has now established itself not just as one of the best engineering colleges in the country, but the whole MIT Group of Institutions is dedicated to providing the best education in multiple disciplines like Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Management, IT, and others.

You are now entering into a very important phase of your academic careers. The ensuing few years will extract a lot of hard work from you, much, much more than perhaps you have done before. You will be striving to form a solid academic base from which you can launch a satisfying professional career. This institution will go all the way in helping you create this academic base. While providing you with the best infrastructure and faculty, MIT will also provide timely counselling, career guidance and adequate placement support.

MIT Pune has also won a lot of accreditations, and is in constant touch with many foreign universities across the world. There is also a regular inflow of guest lecturers on a variety of subjects ranging from engineering to management to spirituality. Students are also encouraged to participate in different extracurricular activities like sports, dramatics, techno-fairs, etc. Over the years, students of MIT have distinguished themselves by winning a lot of prizes in these activities and keeping the flag of this institution flying high.
