National Cadet Corps" is considered to be the second line of defence for the country. Youthful, energetic, sincere & patriotic boys & girls come together and work as NCC cadets, with the motto, "Unity & Discipline". NCC helps a great deal in shaping up the overall personality of these young men & women, who would be the responsible citizens of tomorrow & in whom lies the future of the country.
The training imparted to the cadets is rigorous & is oriented towards inculcation of officer like qualities & leadership. Importance of qualities such as sincerity, honesty, unity, brotherhood, bravery, resilience, single mindedness, resourcefulness etc. is imbibed onto the young minds in systematic & disciplined manner. The 'cardinal principles' which make sound foundation are - obey with smile, punctuality, work hard without fuss, make no excuse & tell no lies.
On MIT campus, the activity of NCC, was started in the year of 1995, with a minimal number fo cadets. Within the span of next nine years, the troop has grown & developed into a huge family which has cadets belonging to three different wings of NCC. National cadet corps & allied social, adventure & cultural activities constitute special feature of this premier professional institution.
Training is rigorous & is conducted regularly, This includes weekly theory classes on service subjects, basic foot drill & weapon drill, adventure activities, water sports & aerosports. Apart from this, social service & social exposure is an important aspects of training. With this in mind we started with the activity of blood donation on the campus, with a frequency of one blood donation drive per semester. But this way we could help only one or two of twenty blood banks in & around Pune. In view of this, we decided to undertake the activity of rotational blood donation drives where a group of 10-15 enthusiastic & responsible donors visits a particular blood bank to donate blood.
The cycle repeats after each fortnight. We also cater for the emergency blood requirements for needy patients & blood banks.
Another social service project is being carried out at 'CIPLA - Palliative Care & Training Centre". This center treats advanced stage (terminally ill) cancer patients totally free of cost. The treatment is specifically oriented toward pain management & mind control. Two troop members work at CIPLA everyday, which is done in rotation. Troop members provide voluntary help throughout the year except examination period. The help is provided in various areas such as administration, drug store, home visits for counseling, hospital visits, gardening & cultural entertainment. This relentless contribution is well appreciated by CIPLA authorities, patients & their relatives.
So as to carry out all the above mentioned activities in most disciplined, systematic & efficient manner the total strength of the troop is divided into five committees. This helps a great deal in distribution of work & development of specific skills. Every committee has around 20 members including a leader & two sub leaders. The members work continuously & strive to achieve specific & well defined goals. The glimpse of committee structure :
Blood Donation Committee :
Blood is a vital fluid & thus donation of blood is life saving noble donation. Keeping this in mind the committee strive to educate the youth about utmost importance of blood donation & to motivate them to participate in all the activities related to blood donation.
Academics Committee :
Academics forms a solid foundation of professional & future aspects for everybody. That is why this committee plans & implements a system for improvement in academic performance of troop members, interacts with parents in detail, regarding academics & other personnel aspects of their wards, helps the members through counselling sessions. This way this committee is very active in building & shaping up of a positive, all rounder & winning personality of members.
Cultural Committee :
Culture is a common thread that puts together the diversified peculiarities of different religions, caste & creeds in India, to make a wonderful garland of unity & togetherness. Thus this committee apart from binding all other committees together, also reflects true Indian spirit through its performances at CIPLA, our annual social gathering & other social occasions.
Aero sports & Water sports Committee :
Adventure is and integral part of training for those aspiring to join the defence forces & take it up as career. In fact this is equally essential for everybody as it teaches how to get through all the challenges of life & natural odds with positive attitude.
Till date this committee has successfully organized & conducted variety of activities including trekking, water sports such as kayaking, sailing & rowing, ship modeling, aero sports such as gliding, paragliding, parasailing & aero-modeling.
Publicity Committee :
Visualizing MIT NCC TROOP as a grown up tree with all other committees as branches, publicity committee forms as part of trunk.
This committee's primary concern, is reaching maximum number of like minded people & making them aware about overall activities along with multi disciplinary approach of the troop. This helps a great deal in increasing strength of the troop & in maintaining cohesive atmosphere.
With such an efficient committee, structure activities are carried out with utmost consistency. Another most important feature of this structure is, seniors learn how to take care of the juniors & juniors learn how to respect seniors.
The troop comprises not only of cadets but also of a VOLUNTEERS. If you have smartness, positive attitude & want to be creative, you are most welcome to join the troop.
We are always looking out eagerly for the like minded, energetic & enthusiastic youth to join this multi disciplinary approach for nation building.
